The 1S 3.7V 300 mAh Turnigy Nano-Tech 45C LiPo batteries are designed for use with small scale RC helicopters such as Blade mCPX and other similar models such as WLtoys v922 or Turnigy FBL100 and others. These are intended for a direct replacement with higher capacity and a much higher discharge rates (at least in terms of written specs). The Turnigy brand from Hobby King usually comes at very attractive prices and very good ratings, though we are used to seeing the batteries actually not performing as good as their specs say they should, so our expectations here are to see lower discharge rates than advertised.

1s-3-7v-300-mah-turnigy-nano-tech-45c-lipo-battery-capacity

We have started the tests with a 1C discharge rate (0.3A) for the 1S 3.7V 300 mAh Turnigy Nano-Tech 45C LiPo battery and we’ve managed to get 320 mAh as a maximum capacity, or a bit over the manufacturer rating for this battery or with other words a pleasant surprise for a start. Increasing the constant current load further to 5C, 10C, 15C and even 20C and the battery still manages to provide capacity close to its manufacturer rating. At 25C discharge it is still handing Ok and offers decent capacity, but at 30C we see that it is already too much for the battery to handle and the rating is 45C as a constant discharge rate for the battery. The actual rating for these batteries for constant current discharge should be more like 25C and not 45C, but the capacity at the real discharge rates that the battery can handle are quite good.

The performance of the 1S 3.7V 300 mAh Turnigy Nano-Tech 45C LiPo battery in our tests:

– 320 mAh at 0.3A load (1C)
– 300 mAh at 1.5A load (5C)
– 299 mAh at 3.0A load (10C)
– 292 mAh at 4.5A load (15C)
– 279 mAh at 6.0A load (20C)
– 193 mAh at 7.5A load (25C)
– 19 mAh at 9.0A load (30C)

The 1S 3.7V 160 mAh Turnigy Nano-tech 25-40C LiPo batteries are designed for use with small scale RC helicopters as a replacement batteries for the originals upplied with the compatible radio controlled model. The Turnigy brand by Hobby King (one of the largest online RC model stores) so far got us with mixed results when testing different batteries, for example LiPos often turn out to be with overrated specs than what they really can provide, but with the Turnigy AA/AAA NiMHs for example we got very good results. So let us see what this Turnigy Nano-tech LiPo battery can provide in our tests…

Official Battery Specifications:

– Capacity: 160 mAh
– Voltage: 1S1P / 1 Cell / 3.7V
– Discharge: 25C Constant / 40C Burst
– Weight: 4.3g (including plug & case)
– Dimensions: 39x7x11mm
– Discharge Plug: 2 Prong Align Style (Fits Align Trex 100)

1s-3-7v-160-mah-turnigy-nano-tech-25-40c-lipo-battery-capacity

We have started the tests with a 1C discharge rate (0.16A) for the 1S 3.7V 160 mAh Turnigy Nano-tech 25-40C LiPo battery and we’ve managed to get 158 mAh as a maximum capacity, or almost what the battery is rated by the manufacturer. The 2 mAh shorter than the rating of 160 mAh should not be much of a problem if the battery manages to meet its other specifications, especially considering the very good price. Up to about 15C discharge rate or 2.4A constant current load the battery seems to handle very well, then a bit of a hiccup at 20C, but still managing to provide decent capacity. And at 25C discharge rate – 4.0A constant current load the battery is no longer able to provide stable power for more than a moment before it reaches the cutoff voltage. So again we are a bit short from the manufacturer rating of the battery claiming 25C constant discharge as we can clearly see that the real rating should be more like 20C constant and 25C burst discharge instead of 25-40C.

The performance of the 1S 3.7V 160 mAh Turnigy Nano-tech 25-40C LiPo Battery in our tests:

– 158 mAh at 0.16A load (1.0C)
– 142 mAh at 0.8A load (5.0C)
– 138 mAh at 1.6A load (10.0C)
– 130 mAh at 2.4A load (15.0C)
– 111 mAh at 3.2A load (20.0C)
– 9 mAh at 4.0A load (25.0C)

The 3S 11.1V 180 mAh Turnigy Nano-Tech 25-40C LiPo batteries are one of the smallest 3-cell Lithium-Polymer batteries available used in small-scale radio controlled models such as mini and micro cars and planes. Not to mention that these Turnigy batteries are available at a quite attractive price at hobby King, so you can buy more just to have a few spares. Of course if they are able to handle the high discharge rates that they are rated at – 25C constant and 40C burst, they could be really great, however still need to check it along with the capacity they can provide.

Official Battery Specifications:

– Capacity: 180mAh
– Voltage: 3S1P / 3 Cell / 11.1V
– Discharge: 25C Constant / 40C Burst
– Weight: 19g (including wire, plug & case)
– Dimensions: 35x20x15mm
– Balance Plug: JST-XH
– Discharge Plug: JST

3s-11-1v-180-mah-turnigy-nano-tech-25-40c-lipo-battery-capacity

Time for the actual tests, starting with a 1C discharge rate (0.18A) for the 3S 11.1V 180 mAh Turnigy Nano-Tech 25-40C LiPo battery we’ve managed to get 173 mAh as a maximum capacity and that is a bit short from the 180 mAh rating, though quite close to what it should’ve been. Moving to higher discharge rates such as 5C interestingly enough the battery was able to supply 182 mAh and 179 mAh at 10C discharge rate, apparently due to the fact that the temperature of the LiPo cells increases and the internal resistance gets lower at the higher discharge rate unlike at 1C. The temperature of the battery remains in the safe zone 55 degrees Celsius at 15C and 20C discharge rates and at 25C it gets a bit too hot at 73 degrees Celsius (out of the safe zone of up to 60) while still providing 165 mAh.

The performance of the 3S 11.1V 180 mAh Turnigy Nano-Tech 25-40C LiPo Battery in our tests:

– 173 mAh at 0.18A load (1C)
– 182 mAh at 0.90A load (5C)
– 179 mAh at 1.80A load (10C)
– 171 mAh at 2.70A load (15C)
– 170 mAh at 3.60A load (20C)
– 165 mAh at 4.50A load (25C)

We would not recommend using this battery at more than 20C for constant discharge rate, though the 3S 11.1V 180 mAh Turnigy Nano-Tech 25-40C LiPo battery may work well at 25C if properly cooled for example in a RC plane. In overall good performance and results that pretty much match the specs of the battery, though with some things that you should have in mind. Getting the battery too hot can permanently damage it or cause it to start a fire!
