Lenovo is not know much for its mobile accessories an they have never been a focus of the company, but still it is making them as a part of their mobile accessories product lines. We have picked up one of the company’s power banks to check it out and it does not seem bad at all both in terms of specifications (See below) and features. The PB420 Power Bank is compact in size device with aluminum and plastic case, a single USB output and single micro USB input port and a LED charging indicator. The device looks and feels nice in overall and seems to be durable, though we have not specifically tested it out for durability. Even though it is using just 5000 mAh LiPo battery inside it can take a charge with 1.5A current and can output up to 2.1A for charging other mobile devices.

We have tested the 5000 mAh Lenovo PB420 Power Bank with 1.0A constant current discharge and with 2.1A as well and in both cases the useable capacity in mAh is pretty high. Thanks to the high voltage output that stays close to 5V and does not drop much even at 2.1A load (~4.87V average) the capacity in Wh also is pretty high for a 5000 mAh power bank. What was a bit unexpected was the fact that the battery case gets a bit hot during higher current discharge which we did not expect to see happening with a power bank. Using a Lithium-Polymer battery cell with just 2.1A normally should not lead to the battery getting hotter, but the temperature is well within the problem-free zone and it does not seem to affect functionality in any way, so it should not be a problem. We should also note that so far this is the best 5000 mAh power bank in terms of useable capacity that we have tested so far, though we have just tested a few so far and we need to get more results for a proper comparison.

The performance of the 5000 mAh Lenovo PB420 Power Bank in our tests:

We have picked up another power bank from ADATA, this time a smaller in size and capacity and fancier looking compared to the other models we have tested so far. The 7000 mAh ADATA X7000 comes with mostly aluminum case where the battery is and a smaller plastic part where the electronics is housed, a slim, light and good looking power bank for sure. It comes equipped with dual USB charging ports and can charge two devices simultaneously with a maximum combined charging current of 2.4A. The supported input current for charging the battery inside the power bank is 2.0A, so it can be charged faster and can charge devices faster with up to 2.4A max current. Not to mention that the price of the power bank is quite attractive, making it an interesting choice for lower capacity model with faster charging options.

We have tested the 7000 mAh ADATA X7000 Power Bank with 1.0A constant discharge current as the more often used as well as with 2.4A as the maximum supported by the power bank. In both cases we are seeing that the electronics of the power bank manages to provide pretty stable and high (close to 5V) output and a very good capacity levels in terms of mAh and as a result in Wh as well. The voltage cure is not straight line like we’ve seen with previous models from ADATA, but a jagged one very similar to that we’ve seen in our 5000 mAh GP Portable Power Bank (FP05M) Test.

Time to check out another power bank from Xiaomi, this time it is probably the most interesting product of this kind they are currently offering – the 10000 mAh Xiaomi Mi Power Bank Pro (PLM03ZM). It is a compact and nice looking power bank with aluminum case that features USB type-C charging port for faster charging of the power bank’s battery and supports up to 18W fast charging both ways. The power bank supports the Quick Charge 3.0 technology by Qualcom for faster charging of compatible smartphones and there is automatic smart voltage switching between 5V, 9V and 12V (depending on the device you connect) in order to reach up to 18W input and output if supported. Also the PLM03ZM apparently also supports HiSilicon’s Fast Charging Protocol used by Huawei, so compatible smartphones can also benefit from faster charging. Do note that there is a PLM01ZM version of that power bank that is a bit older and Quick Charge 2.0 and no support for HiSilicon’s Fast Charging, so make sure you heck the model number just to be sure you are getting the newer PLM03ZM version that we have tested.

With the 10000 mAh Xiaomi Mi Power Bank Pro (PLM03ZM) we have performed two tests, one with with 1.0A constant current discharge and one with 2.4A as the maximum rating for the product for 5V. Since the power bank uses automatic smart switching between 5V, 9V and 12V if it detects a compatible device we were not able to test at the higher voltages unfortunately. Since we got really good results at 5V we expect that the performance with higher voltage and lower amps – 12V 1.5A and 9V 2A should also be really good. At over 7 Amps of usable capacity at both of our tests we can clearly say that the performance of the 10000 mAh Xiaomi Mi Power Bank Pro is really good, making the whole product a very nice overall choice for a mobile power bank with high capacity.
