Tests and reviews of different batteries to help you find the Right One…
The 1.2V AA 2200 mAh Gens Ace NiMH batteries we got here for testing are of the LSD (Low Self Discharge) type and offer a good balance in terms of capacity and price, not the highest one for LSD NiMH batteries, but also these come at a price of about half of that of the highest capacity LSD NiMH batteries out there. We’ve seen mostly good results from various Gens Ace LiPo batteries so far, and now it is time to see how well they are doing with NiMH batteries. Unfortunately they offer only AA size NiMH batteries, the ones tested here, so there are no other options currently available for example AAA or 9V. These Gens Ace batteries are rated as 2200 mAh, but there is no information about typical and minimum guaranteed capacity, though the suppose that they are 2200 mAh typical and 2100 mAh minimum capacity.
Starting the tests of the 1.2V AA 2200 mAh Gens Ace NiMH batteries with a low constant current discharge rate of 0.2A got us 2098 mAh as useable capacity or with other words pretty much what their supposed minimum capacity should be. Just in case we have repeated the test with multiple different batteries and all of them ended up at about 2100 mAh useable capacity – still a good, but not a great result. Increasing the constant current load to 0.5A and 1.0A we still got very good results with useable capacity that is very close and even at 2.0A the Gens Ace battery still manages to provide a lot of capacity. The results, although slightly disappointing in terms of maximum useable capacity at low loads (we expected a bit more from Gens Ace), still show very good performance for both low and high load applications. And thanks to the good price these batteries may be a suitable choice for people looking for good high capacity LSD NiMH batteries available at a more affordable price and not looking for the best and highest possible capacity models that do cost more and may not offer that much more in terms of performance.

The 1S 3.7V 300 mAh Gens Ace 30C LiPo batteries are designed for use with small scale RC helicopters such as Blade mCPX and other similar models such as WLtoys v922, Turnigy FBL100 and others. These are intended to be used as an alternative to the stock battery and provide higher capacity and higher discharge rates to ensure longer flight time and better performance. We are used seeing very good results from Gens Ace batteries so far and we are having high expectations for these batteries, but let us see how they will perform in our tests.

We have started the tests with a 1C discharge rate (0.3A) for the 1S 3.7V 300 mAh Gens Ace 30C LiPo battery and we’ve managed to get 308 mAh as a maximum capacity. This is a bit more than the manufacturer rating for this battery or with other words good start for the battery as we were expecting the Gens Ace meets its capacity rating. However what comes as a not so good surprise is that the constant discharge rate is about 20C maximum and not 30C as the specifications say it should be. Andjust to be sure it is not a problem with a particular unit, we have tested multiple batteries and all of them were not able to show better results. Gens Ace also sell 1S 300 mAh batteries with 15C rating and there could be some mix-up, however the boxes of the four batteries we have tested say that we’ve received the 30C model and not the 15C (we have ordered the one with 30C discharge rate). So a bit of a disappointment from this particular product from Gens Ace, but this just shows that not all of their products may be so good as we expect them to be.
The performance of the 1S 3.7V 300 mAh Gens Ace 30C LiPo battery in our tests:
– 308 mAh at 0.3A load (1C)
– 284 mAh at 1.5A load (5C)
– 280 mAh at 3.0A load (10C)
– 267 mAh at 4.5A load (15C)
– 214 mAh at 6.0A load (20C)
– 20 mAh at 7.5A load (25C)
The 1S 3.7V 120 mAh Gens Ace 15C LiPo batteries with Nine Eagle type plug are used in various small remote controlled helicopters, especially in many of the Chinese brands and not only in Nine Eagle’s models. Gens Ace’s LiPo batteries have so far shown very good results in our tests, so we have high expectations for this battery as well as it could turn out to be a good upgrade option over the original LiPo batteries that may have inflated discharge ratings sold by the companies that make RC helicopters. As you can see this Gens Ace battery does not have a very high discharge rating at only 15C constant and 30C burst, but unlike many other Chinese LiPo batteries we’ve seen Gens Ace’s batteries to actually meet these specs in actual conditions.
Official Battery Specifications:
– Capacity: 120mAh
– Voltage: 3.7V
– Max Continuous Discharge: 15C (1.8A)
– Max Burst Discharge: 30C (3.6A)
– Weight: 3.9 g
– Dimensions: 48.16×12.16×5.08 mm
– Discharge Plug: NINE EAGLE Type
– Charge Rate: 1-3C Recommended, 5C Max
We have started the tests with a 1C discharge rate (0.12A) for the 1S 3.7V 120 mAh Gens Ace 15C LiPo battery and we’ve managed to get 130 mAh as a maximum capacity, a value that is a bit over the rated capacity of 120 mAh and that is definitely a good thing. Increasing the constant current discharge load at 5C, 10C and even 15C and the battery still manages to perform great, meeting the manufacturers specifications. In fact we suspect that even at 20C constant current discharge rate this battery will still manage to handle pretty well judging by the results we are getting from it. So great job with this battery as well for Gens Ace, a company that is continuing to build up a very good reputation for its battery products made for remote controlled models – planes, helicopters, cars, boats etc.
The performance of the 1S 3.7V 120 mAh Gens Ace 15C LiPo Battery in our tests:
– 130 mAh at 0.12A load (1.0C)
– 116 mAh at 0.6A load (5.0C)
– 115 mAh at 1.2A load (10.0C)
– 111 mAh at 1.8A load (15.0C)
