The 1.2V AAA 1000 mAh Varta Power Accu NiMH batteries are of the highest capacity rechargeable AAA size NiMHs that Varta offers, though these are the last of the non-LSD models as the company has apparently decided to replace this model with a low self discharge version. So far we’ve seen very good results in terms of performance from Varta batteries (especially when used in low power applications), so here we also have high expectations.

Starting the test of the 1.2V AAA 1000 mAh Varta Power Accu NiMH batteries with a low constant current discharge rate of 0.1A and got us 1086 mAh as useable capacity and that is a great result making these batteries great for use in low power applications. In fact the 1086 mAh capacity is the highest capacity from a rechargeable AAA size battery that we’ve measured so far. By further increasing the levels of load we still get good levels of capacity, though the results here are not as good as the one with 0.1A and they are more moderate, but still showing that these Varta batteries can handle pretty good high power use as well.

The performance of the 1.2V AAA 1000 mAh Varta Power Accu NiMH batteries in our tests:

– 1086 mAh at 0.1A load
– 818 mAh at 0.2A load
– 757 mAh at 0.5A load
– 742 mAh at 1.0A load

– 1.345 Wh at 0.1A load
– 1.013 Wh at 0.2A load
– 0.890 Wh at 0.5A load
– 0.799 Wh at 1.0A load

The 1.5V AAA Varta Max Tech Alkaline batteries are the higher-end version of Alkaline batteries that the company has and are intended for use with high-tech devices, e.g. mMP3 players, digital cameras, photoflash etc. according to Varta. Varta also has a High Energy series that is intended for use with more power hungry devices and is regarded as the most powerful of all Varta Alkaline batteries. The Max Tech batteries we’ve had for testing here were with an expiration date of 06-2017.

Beginning our test of the 1.5V AAA Varta Max Tech Alkaline batteries as we usually do with a low constant current discharge rate of 0.1A we have managed to get just 787 mAh as capacity, so we were a bit disappointed as with the AA size batteries of the same type we’ve got the highest capacity among all models we’ve tested and we expected to see similar excellent results here as well. Going for higher constant current discharge rate the batteries still did not perform as good as we’ve expected them, so they were not like a high-end model, but the performance was more like a mid-end ones. And while the results we’ve got were still very decent, we are a bit disappointed as we expected more, and we should of course also test the High Energy models to see how well will they perform as well.

The performance of the 1.5V AAA Varta Max Tech Alkaline batteries in our tests:

– 787 mAh at 0.1A load
– 597 mAh at 0.2A load
– 453 mAh at 0.3A load
– 202 mAh at 0.5A load

– 0.942 Wh at 0.1A load
– 0.693 Wh at 0.2A load
– 0.510 Wh at 0.3A load
– 0.222 Wh at 0.5A load

1-5v-aaa-varta-superlife-carbon-zinc-battery

The 1.5V AAA Varta Superlife batteries are of the Carbon Zinc type even though that fact is not marked anywhere on them. The batteries we have for testing here were with an expiration date of 03-2016, so they are supposedly offering a shelf life of 3 years as with most other Carbon Zinc batteries of this size. So what about their capacity, well as is the case with Carbon Zinc batteries you should not expect much, but let us see what capacity these batteries will show in our tests.

We have started the test of the 1.5V AAA Varta Superlife Carbon Zinc batteries as usual with a low constant current discharge rate of 0.1A and the result we got was 372 mAh as capacity. Increasing the load to 0.2A and 0.3A the Varta batteries still did pretty good and even at 0.5A the useable capacity was still quite decent. In overall the 1.5V AAA Varta Superlife batteries seem to be one of the best performing among all AAA size Carbon Zinc models we’ve tested so far. Note that if you opt out to use carbon Zinc batteries you should have in mind that they are offering less capacity than Alkaline and are not a good choice for applications where higher current is required.

The performance of the 1.5V AAA Varta Superlife Carbon Zinc batteries in our tests:

– 372 mAh at 0.1A load
– 240 mAh at 0.2A load
– 192 mAh at 0.3A load
– 113 mAh at 0.5A load

– 0.441 Wh at 0.1A load
– 0.272 Wh at 0.2A load
– 0.211 Wh at 0.3A load
– 0.110 Wh at 0.5A load
