Tests and reviews of different batteries to help you find the Right One…
The 1.2V AAA 1000 mAh GP NiMH batteries we test here are of the standard NiMH type and are rated at 1000 mAh typical capacity and 930 mAh minimum guaranteed. Our experience so far with GP batteries has shown that some models are performing great while others not so well, so it will be interesting to see to which group we can add these batteries. So time to start the testes…
As we usually do we have started the test of the 1.2V AAA 1000 mAh GP NiMH batteries with a low constant current discharge rate of 0.1A and the result we got was 1085 mAh and that is pretty impressive for a battery rated at 1000 mAh. Going further with a load of 0.2A and we managed to get 1005 mAh which is still over the typical rating of these batteries, and with even higher load we still manage to get good results, though not that impressive as at 0.5A we are are a below the minimum rating. Still we are seeing very good performance from the 1.2V AAA 1000 mAh GP NiMH batteries.
The performance of the 1.2V AAA 1000 mAh GP NiMH batteries in our tests:
– 1085 mAh at 0.1A load
– 1005 mAh at 0.2A load
– 876 mAh at 0.5A load
– 796 mAh at 1.0A load
– 1.325 Wh at 0.1A load
– 1.211 Wh at 0.2A load
– 1.029 Wh at 0.5A load
– 0.874 Wh at 1.0A load
The 1.5V AAA GP Ultra Alkaline batteries are the mid-end Alkaline batteries from GP, even though the Ultra in the name may suggest they may be some high-end model. The Ultra Alkaline are intended for more power hungry devices, while the standard Super Alkaline batteries are for devices operating using lower power. As supposedly better Alkaline batteries GP also offer the Ultra Plus Alkaline series that we should be checking out in the near future. Anyway, the GP Ultra Alkaline batteries we tested here were with an expiration date set to 07-2019, meaning 6 years of shelf life. And now it is time to see what capacity they will be able to offer in our tests.
Beginning our test of the 1.5V AAA GP Ultra Alkaline batteries as we usually do with a low constant current discharge rate of 0.1A we have managed to get 877 mAh as capacity… a somewhat disappointing result, especially considering that the GP Super Alkaline batteries manage to get better result. The key here is that the 1.5V AAA GP Ultra Alkaline batteries are designed to handle better with devices requiring more power, so by increasing the load they start to show better results that the GP Super Alkaline batteries and going to loads of 0.3A and 0.5A they even manage to outperform by a bit the Duracell Alkaline batteries. So definitely a good choice for more power hungry devices and thus rising even higher our expectations for the GP Ultra Plus series that we still haven’t tested.
The performance of the 1.5V AAA GP Ultra Alkaline batteries in our tests:
– 877 mAh at 0.1A load
– 728 mAh at 0.2A load
– 572 mAh at 0.3A load
– 355 mAh at 0.5A load
– 1.053 Wh at 0.1A load
– 0.839 Wh at 0.2A load
– 0.659 Wh at 0.3A load
– 0.401 Wh at 0.5A load
The 1.5V AAA GP Super Alkaline batteries are the low-end Alkaline batteries from GP, then there is of course the Carbon Zinc as an even lower level, even though the Super in the name may suggest they may be some mid or even high-end solutions. As supposedly better Alkaline batteries GP also offer an Ultra Alkaline as well as Ultra Plus Alkaline series that we are also going to be checking out soon to see what kind of capacity they will be able to provide compared to the standard Super Alkaline. Anyway, the GP Super Alkaline batteries we tested here were with an expiration date set to 01-2019, meaning 6 years of shelf life and let us see what capacity you can expect to get from them as well…
Beginning our test of the 1.5V AAA GP Super Alkaline batteries as we usually do with a low constant current discharge rate of 0.1A we have managed to get 915 mAh as capacity, a result that is quite good for a “standard level” Alkaline batteries. Going to higher constant current discharge rates the batteries still do perform quite well, though at 0.5A load the result was a bit disappointing and thus hinting that these batteries are not designed for very high power applications. So in overall the capacity provided by the 1.5V AAA GP Super Alkaline batteries is very good.
The performance of the 1.5V AAA GP Super Alkaline batteries in our tests:
– 915 mAh at 0.1A load
– 666 mAh at 0.2A load
– 487 mAh at 0.3A load
– 203 mAh at 0.5A load
– 1.097 Wh at 0.1A load
– 0.778 Wh at 0.2A load
– 0.550 Wh at 0.3A load
– 0.226 Wh at 0.5A load
