The 1.5V AAA Varta Superlife batteries are of the Carbon Zinc type even though that fact is not marked anywhere on them. The batteries we have for testing here were with an expiration date of 03-2016, so they are supposedly offering a shelf life of 3 years as with most other Carbon Zinc batteries of this size. So what about their capacity, well as is the case with Carbon Zinc batteries you should not expect much, but let us see what capacity these batteries will show in our tests.

We have started the test of the 1.5V AAA Varta Superlife Carbon Zinc batteries as usual with a low constant current discharge rate of 0.1A and the result we got was 372 mAh as capacity. Increasing the load to 0.2A and 0.3A the Varta batteries still did pretty good and even at 0.5A the useable capacity was still quite decent. In overall the 1.5V AAA Varta Superlife batteries seem to be one of the best performing among all AAA size Carbon Zinc models we’ve tested so far. Note that if you opt out to use carbon Zinc batteries you should have in mind that they are offering less capacity than Alkaline and are not a good choice for applications where higher current is required.

The performance of the 1.5V AAA Varta Superlife Carbon Zinc batteries in our tests:

– 372 mAh at 0.1A load
– 240 mAh at 0.2A load
– 192 mAh at 0.3A load
– 113 mAh at 0.5A load

– 0.441 Wh at 0.1A load
– 0.272 Wh at 0.2A load
– 0.211 Wh at 0.3A load
– 0.110 Wh at 0.5A load

The 1.5V AAA Sony New Ultra batteries are of the Carbon Zinc type even though that is not marked on the batteries themselves. The batteries we got for testing here were with an expiration date of 11-2015, so they are supposedly offering a shelf life of 3 years. And what about their capacity you’d probably ask, well as is the case with Carbon Zinc batteries you should not expect much, but let us see what capacity these Sony New Ultra batteries will show in our tests.

We have started the test of the 1.5V AAA Sony New Ultra Carbon Zinc batteries as usual with a low constant current discharge rate of 0.1A and the result we got was 341 mAh as capacity which is a value expected from a decent Carbon Zinc battery. Increasing the load to 0.2A and 0.3A the Sony batteries still did pretty good and at 0.5A the useable capacity was let us say not that good. If you opt out to use carbon Zinc batteries you should have in mind that they are offering less capacity than Alkaline and are not a good choice for applications where higher current is required.

The performance of the 1.5V AAA Sony New Ultra Carbon Zinc batteries in our tests:

– 341 mAh at 0.1A load
– 212 mAh at 0.2A load
– 155 mAh at 0.3A load
– 83 mAh at 0.5A load

– 0.402 Wh at 0.1A load
– 0.239 Wh at 0.2A load
– 0.168 Wh at 0.3A load
– 0.084 Wh at 0.5A load

The 1.5V AAA Toshiba Super Heavy Duty batteries despite their good sounding names are essentially Carbon Zinc batteries, though that is not marked anywhere on the batteries themselves and these are commonly found in supermarkets for example. The batteries we got for testing were with an expiration date of 04-2016, so they are supposedly offering a shelf life of 3 years, but what about their capacity. As is the case with Carbon Zinc batteries you should not expect very high capacity, but let us see what these Toshiba Super Heavy Duty batteries can offer in terms of capacity in our tests.

1-5v-aaa-toshiba-super-heavy-duty-carbon-zinc-battery-capacity

We have started the test of the 1.5V AAA Toshiba Super Heavy Duty Carbon Zinc batteries as we normally do with a low constant current discharge rate of 0.1A and the result we got was 320 mAh as capacity, not that much as we expected from a Carbon Zinc battery. By further increasing the constant current load to the higher values we test with and the batteries started providing even less useable capacity, something that is to be expected, but while Carbon Zinc batteres do provide less capacity than their Alkaline counterparts they are also not a good choice for applications requiting more power. Nevertheless we got a decent result for a Carbon Zinc batteries from the 1.5V AAA Toshiba Super Heavy Duty Carbon Zinc batteries.

The performance of the 1.5V AAA Toshiba Super Heavy Duty Carbon Zinc Batteries in our tests:

– 320 mAh at 0.1A load
– 195 mAh at 0.2A load
– 138 mAh at 0.3A load
– 58 mAh at 0.5A load

– 0.379 Wh at 0.1A load
– 0.219 Wh at 0.2A load
– 0.147 Wh at 0.3A load
– 0.060 Wh at 0.5A load
