Tests and reviews of different batteries to help you find the Right One…
The 1.2V AAA 900 mAh Turnigy LSD NiMH batteries are Low Self Discharge NiMHs as the name suggests, meaning they do loose less of their useable capacity over time compared to traditional NiMH batteries. Turnigy is a brand of one of the largest online RC model stores, namely Hobby King, so these batteries are often used for radio controlled models – for powering transmitters, receivers and even smaller scale models. The price of the Turnigy LSD NiMH batteries is more attractive compared to other similar products, but what about their performance, we are going to find out exactly that now.
We have started the test of the 1.2V AAA 900 mAh Turnigy LSD NiMH batteries as we normally do with a low constant current discharge rate of 0.1A and getting 1068 mAh as a useable capacity is really a good result with significantly higher capacity than what the batteries are rated. In fact the performance of the 900 mAh Turnigy LSD is very close to the one provided by the 950 mAh Powerex Imedion LSD NiMH batteries that we’ve tested recently that also performed great. Increasing the load we test at and we still got great performance out of the Turnigy batteries, so they are great and affordable solution and the only problem is that you can only order these online from some of Hobby King’s warehouses in different countries.
The performance of the 1.2V AAA 900 mAh Turnigy LSD NiMH batteries in our tests:
– 1068 mAh at 0.1A load
– 988 mAh at 0.2A load
– 909 mAh at 0.5A load
– 836 mAh at 1.0A load
– 1.318 Wh at 0.1A load
– 1.203 Wh at 0.2A load
– 1.076 Wh at 0.5A load
– 0.948 Wh at 1.0A load
The 1.2V AAA 950 mAh Powerex Imedion Rechargeable NiMH batteries are rechargeable batteries of the LSD type (Low Self Discharge) that are rated to retain up to 85% of their charge after 1 year of storage, unlike traditional NiMH batteries that will probably be completely discharged when stored for such a long period of time. The initial discharge capacity we got from these batteries was between 706 and 714 mAh with a low discharge current. Powerex is a brand of Maha Energy Corporation and is a well known brand among professional photographers for good quality batteries that are usually rated among the best and the same goes about the range of battery chargers that the company also makes. In fact we are using a MAHA Powerex C-9000 WizardOne Charger Analyzer as a part of our battery testing setup as we consider this to be one of the best AA/AAA battery chargers out there, so we do have very high expectations from these batteries.
We have started the test of the 1.2V AAA 950 mAh Powerex Imedion Rechargeable NiMH batteries as we normally do with a low constant current discharge rate of 0.1A and the result we got was 1062 mAh, or with a bit more than 100 mAh than the rated capacity. The great performance continues even after increasing the load all the way up to 1.0A where we still get 800 mAh as a useable capacity. As we expected the 1.2V AAA 950 mAh Powerex Imedion Rechargeable NiMH batteries do perform great by providing higher capacity than they are rated at and they manage to handle well in both low and high load applications.
The performance of the 1.2V AAA 950 mAh Powerex Imedion Rechargeable NiMH Batteries in our tests:
– 1062 mAh at 0.1A load
– 988 mAh at 0.2A load
– 877 mAh at 0.5A load
– 800 mAh at 1.0A load
– 1.325 Wh at 0.1A load
– 1.222 Wh at 0.2A load
– 1.057 Wh at 0.5A load
– 0.910 Wh at 1.0A load
The 1.2V AAA 850 mAh Hama Ready for Power NiMH batteries are rechargeable batteries of the LSD type (Low Self Discharge) – batteries that come pre-charged and ready to be used and that retain most of their capacity over longer periods of time unlike the standard NiMH batteries that lose their charge at a faster rate. Hama is an European brand that is known for various computer and not only computer accessories and they often have interesting products at good prices, so let us see if these batteries are such a product or not…
We have started the test of the 1.2V AAA 850 mAh Hama Ready for Power NiMH batteries as we normally do with a low constant current discharge rate of 0.1A and the result we got was 992 mAh, a surprisingly good result from a battery rated at 850 mAh. Increasing the constant current load to 0.2A these batteries still manage to provide more than their rated capacity, and going for 0.5A load they fall just a bit below their rated capacity. Even with a 1.0A constant current discharge load we got surprisingly high useable capacity, meaning that Hama did really well with this product and it not only meets the ratings, but surpasses them quite a lot. The batteries handle very well not only with a low current load, but with a high loads as well, making them suitable for all applications. the good useable capacity under low and high loads, together with the low self discharge capabilities makes these rechargeable Hama batteries a good choice for various needs.
The performance of the 1.2V AAA 850 mAh Hama Ready for Power NiMH Batteries in our tests:
– 992 mAh at 0.1A load
– 897 mAh at 0.2A load
– 843 mAh at 0.5A load
– 766 mAh at 1.0A load
– 1.239 Wh at 0.1A load
– 1.103 Wh at 0.2A load
– 1.000 Wh at 0.5A load
– 0.852 Wh at 1.0A load
