The 1.2V AA 2400 mAh Powerex Imedion NiMH batteries are of the Low Self Discharge Type (LSD NiMH) and are considered to be among the best high capacity and high performance LSD NiMH batteries by many, competing with the like of Sanyo Eneloop for example. These batteries are rated at 2400 mAh typical and 2250 mAh minimum guaranteed capacity and the fact that they are LSD means they are supposed to loose not more than 15% of their capacity per year of storage. They also come pre-charged and can be recharged up to 1000 times. But let us see how good will they perform in our tests and see if they will manage to hold up to their reputation well or not.

Starting the tests of the 1.2V AA 2400 mAh Powerex Imedion NiMH batteries with a low constant current discharge rate of 0.2A got us 2414 mAh as or with other words we are getting a bit over the typical capacity that they are rated at, so a good start. Increasing the load to 0.5A these batteries still manage to provide capacity higher than their minimum rating of 2250 mAh, so more good results here. And going with even higher constant current loads of 1.0A and 2.0A we are still seeing very good results in terms of useable capacity. So in short, meeting their rating and providing more than good results in both low and high load applications and while not as good as Sanyo Eneloop XX in terms of capacity they are also a bit cheaper than the Eneloops. Anyway, these batteries are very good for what they are rated at and for their price, so you cannot go wrong getting them.

The performance of the 1.2V AA 2400 mAh Powerex Imedion NiMH batteries in our tests:

– 2414 mAh at 0.2A load
– 2283 mAh at 0.5A load
– 2168 mAh at 1.0A load
– 1917 mAh at 2.0A load

– 3.002 Wh at 0.2A load
– 2.781 Wh at 0.5A load
– 2.535 Wh at 1.0A load
– 2.099 Wh at 2.0A load

The 1.2V AA 2200 mAh Gens Ace NiMH batteries we got here for testing are of the LSD (Low Self Discharge) type and offer a good balance in terms of capacity and price, not the highest one for LSD NiMH batteries, but also these come at a price of about half of that of the highest capacity LSD NiMH batteries out there. We’ve seen mostly good results from various Gens Ace LiPo batteries so far, and now it is time to see how well they are doing with NiMH batteries. Unfortunately they offer only AA size NiMH batteries, the ones tested here, so there are no other options currently available for example AAA or 9V. These Gens Ace batteries are rated as 2200 mAh, but there is no information about typical and minimum guaranteed capacity, though the suppose that they are 2200 mAh typical and 2100 mAh minimum capacity.

Starting the tests of the 1.2V AA 2200 mAh Gens Ace NiMH batteries with a low constant current discharge rate of 0.2A got us 2098 mAh as useable capacity or with other words pretty much what their supposed minimum capacity should be. Just in case we have repeated the test with multiple different batteries and all of them ended up at about 2100 mAh useable capacity – still a good, but not a great result. Increasing the constant current load to 0.5A and 1.0A we still got very good results with useable capacity that is very close and even at 2.0A the Gens Ace battery still manages to provide a lot of capacity. The results, although slightly disappointing in terms of maximum useable capacity at low loads (we expected a bit more from Gens Ace), still show very good performance for both low and high load applications. And thanks to the good price these batteries may be a suitable choice for people looking for good high capacity LSD NiMH batteries available at a more affordable price and not looking for the best and highest possible capacity models that do cost more and may not offer that much more in terms of performance.

The performance of the 1.2V AA 2200 mAh Gens Ace NiMH batteries in our tests:

– 2098 mAh at 0.2A load
– 1932 mAh at 0.5A load
– 1923 mAh at 1.0A load
– 1791 mAh at 2.0A load

– 2.598 Wh at 0.2A load
– 2.368 Wh at 0.5A load
– 2.231 Wh at 1.0A load
– 1.995 Wh at 2.0A load

1-2v-aa-3000-mah-bty-nimh-batteries

The 1.2V AA 3000 mAh BTY NiMH batteries are something that you may find in a lot of Chinese online stores as well as on eBay and what you will notice for sure with these batteries is that they are being sold very cheap for 3000 mAh capacity. These rechargeable AA batteries supposedly offer the very high capacity of 3000 mAh and the considering their very cheap price should raise an alarm, meaning that the capacity rating is most likely lower than advertised. It is always a wise idea to avoid getting such batteries, but we got a pack of four in order to be able to test them and see what is the actual capacity that these batteries are providing and how much it differs from the advertised 3000 mAh. We were prepared for nothing more than half the advertised capacity, but going through a Break-In mode on the MAHA C9000 Charger/Analyzer we were not prepared for such a disappointment. On the photo above you can see the minimum and maximum measured capacity of the pack of four batteries and you will get why we were so disappointed. In fact what we got as available capacity was as follows: 306 mAh, 334 mAh, 337 mAh and 373 mAh and that is from batteries that are being advertised as being able to provide 3000 mAh capacity, not worth buying these regardless of the price, hell they are not worth even if somebody gives them to you for free.

Avoid buying 1.2V AA 3000 mAh BTY NiMH batteries, they are really not worth it!!!
