The 1.5V AAA Duracell Procell Alkaline batteries are the version of Duracell’s batteries intended for business and professional use and though many people believe that these are actually the same batteries as the standard Duracell Copper Top ones our tests have shown a difference. The 1.5V AAA Duracell Procell Alkaline batteries are performing better by offering more capacity and the ones we used for testing here were with an expiration date of 03-2019, so they are supposedly offering a shelf life of 6 years, but what about their capacity…

We have started the test of the 1.5V AAA Duracell Procell Alkaline batteries as we normally do with a low constant current discharge rate of 0.1A and the result we got was 1038 mAh as capacity and that is a great result with a bit over 1A. Increasing the constant current load to the higher values we test with and the batteries continued to show very good performance. As the level of the load increases their capacity in terms of percentage also increases more and more compared to what traditional Duracell Copper Top batteries are providing, so the higher the load the better the Procell Alkaline batteries will perform.

The performance of the 1.5V AAA Duracell Procell Alkaline Batteries in our tests:

– 1038 mAh at 0.1A load
– 797 mAh at 0.2A load
– 627 mAh at 0.3A load
– 455 mAh at 0.5A load

– 1.276 Wh at 0.1A load
– 0.955 Wh at 0.2A load
– 0.738 Wh at 0.3A load
– 0.523 Wh at 0.5A load

The 1.5V AAA Duracell Alkaline batteries are our reference batteries for comparing how other brands’ AAA batteries are performing, because as we know the Duracell Copper Top are performing very well, though they may not be the ones offering the highest capacity in various conditions. The 1.5V AAA Duracell Alkaline batteries we used for testing here were with an expiration date of 03-2019, so they are supposedly offering a long shelf life of 6 years, but what about the capacity they can provide…

We have started the test of the 1.5V AAA Duracell Alkaline batteries as we normally do with a low constant current discharge rate of 0.1A and the result we got was 970 mAh as capacity and that is a very good result close to 1A. Increasing the constant current load to the higher values we use for testing the batteries continued to show very good performance and even in high loads they’ve managed to offer good performance. So it will be interesting to see how good other AAA size Alkaline batteries will compare in terms of capacity in our tests.

The performance of the 1.5V AAA Duracell Alkaline Batteries in our tests:

– 970 mAh at 0.1A load
– 777 mAh at 0.2A load
– 553 mAh at 0.3A load
– 336 mAh at 0.5A load

– 1.174 Wh at 0.1A load
– 0.916 Wh at 0.2A load
– 0.637 Wh at 0.3A load
– 0.378 Wh at 0.5A load

9v-duracell-alkaline-battery

The 9V Duracell Alkaline batteries we test here are rated with up to 5 years shelf life and are marked for use up to 03-2017. Duracell’s website does not have detailed specifications about these batteries, so we have to check them out by testing the actual capacity we can get out of these. And since we are using the standard Duracell Copper Top Alkaline batteries as our reference to judge and compare to other batteries the result we get here is very important for our further tests.

To test the capacity that the 9V Duracell alkaline batteries can provide we are using a constant current discharge test with 0.05A load (50 miliampers) due to the fact that the total capacity of these batteries is not that high and they are not intended for use in situations where high current loads can be expected. The 9V Duracell Alkaline battery we have tested here managed to provide 311 mAh capacity before hitting the 6.6V cutoff voltage. We kind of expected the Duracell to perform a bit better than what we’ve got, but such capacity is to be expected from a decent 9V Alkaline battery anyway.

The performance of the 9V Duracell Alkaline Batteries in our tests:

– 311 mAh at 0.05A load

– 2.300 Wh at 0.05A load
